< 새끼-치기 >는 벼, 보리 등 분얼성 식물의 새로운 줄기가 형성되는 현상이며 가지치기라는 뜻의 농업 용어에서 따온 제목입니다. 본 줄기와 같은 유전형질을 지닌 것들이 늘어나거나 불어남을 생각하며 원 작품에서 ‘새끼-치기’를 한 ‘가지’ 정체성을 지닌 작품을 전시하고 그 ‘가지’를 거래합니다. 전시는 기존 작품에 대한 재인식, 새롭게 보기, 다시 보기를 통해 소유 가능한 물성을 제공합니다.
2회를 맞은 2024년 < 새끼-치기 >의 슬로건은 “It’s time for LOVE”입니다. 작가가 한해 혹은 그 이상의 시간을 공들여 지은 농사의 결과물인 작품을 소중하고 애틋하게 한 자 한 자 꾹꾹 눌러 담은 편지의 그것과 같이 새로운 물성의 분신으로 빚었습니다. 2024년 4월 10일, 우리는 미처 도착하지 못한 편지의 수신인을 호출합니다.
Saekki-Chigi takes its name from an agricultural term referring to the phenomenon where new stems form in tillering plants such as rice and barley — a process that also means "branching."The project reflects on the idea of identical genetic traits multiplying and expanding, presenting artworks that have "branched out" from original works while retaining their core identity. These offshoots are exhibited and made available for exchange.Through processes of reinterpreting, re-seeing, and re-engaging with existing works, Saekki-Chigi offers new tangible forms that can be owned.
In 2024, celebrating its second edition, Saekki-Chigi embraces the slogan “It’s time for LOVE.”The artists have transformed the fruits of their year-long (or longer) labors into new material forms — like letters, each word pressed with care and affection, destined for recipients they may never reach.On April 10, 2024, we call upon the unseen recipients of these yet-undelivered letters.
